Professor Joseph Delappe, MFA, 2014 Artist-in-Residence of Fresno State’s Center for Creativity and the Arts, is a Professor of the Art Department at the University of Nevada, Reno where he directs the Digital Media Program.

Recently, he has directed his focused on modern American issues such as the war in Iraq as inspiration for his works. The confrontation between America and the Middle East has inspired projects such as dead-in-iraq, his work in online gaming performance, and a unique bike ride he took around Nellis Air Force Range marking an area large enough for a solar farm that would be capable of powering the United States.

The Drone Project involves Fresno State students, faculty, staff, and community members who helped build DeLappe’s sculpture since March 17. DeLappe says, “War memorials too often honor the combatants. This is a memorial to 356 people, including many children and elders, in Pakistan and Afghanistan whose lives were brutally taken for reasons they don’t understand, by an enemy who they can’t see. These names are only a small fraction of the over three thousand that The Bureau of Investigative Journalism in the UK has managed collect and verify.”
