This print is based on a march that happened in Detroit in the summer of 2010, around the time of the summer solstice. Volunteers worked in advance to create giant sunflowers in lieu of protest signs. The main target was Detroit’s incinerator, the largest solid-waste incinerator in the country, located right next to residential Eastside and downtown. Asthma rates in children are twice as high in Detroit as compared with the rest of the state.
