Come and help us to campaign against the use of drones, particularly those used by British forces in Afghanistan. The event coincides with Now Roz, the Afghan new year, so pitch up, fly a kite and help to ground the drones.

We’ll be talking with passers-by, so the more the merrier – many hands make light pamphleteering.

Run in collaboration with Creative Voices for Nonviolence and Drone Wars UK.

Let’s not fly a drone

With billions for artilleries,
You can make your own enemies
With your feet on the ground
And a drone in a fight
Fixing missiles tight,
On a red spot of light.

Come fly these with us!

Come fly these with us!

Oh, no, no!
Let’s go fly a kite
Put down your dynamite!
Let’s go fly a kite and stop ignoring
Deaths of civilians, then
We can be friends again;
Don’t fly drones – fly a kite!

When you send it droning up there
All at once there’s war in the air
They drop bombs where they please
Over houses and trees
Rarely hitting their site…
One more school is alight!

Oh, no, no!
Let’s go fly a kite
Put down your dynamite!
Let’s go fly a kite and stop ignoring
Deaths of civilians, then
We can be friends again;
Don’t fly drones – fly a kite!

Adaptation by Emma Anthony for FoR England of the song “Let’s go fly a kite” from Mary Poppins, a 1964 film by Walt Disney Productions
