Clowns Against Child Poverty (Victoria, BC)

Clowns Against Child Poverty (Victoria, BC)

Clowns Against Child Poverty is a local grassroots campaign spreading awareness about the crisis of child poverty in our world.

Central to our message is the recognition that child poverty is not some unavoidable aspect of the human condition – it’s a matter of policy choices and public priorities. Child poverty exists in our midst because we, as a society, choose to allow it to exist. Clowns Against Child Poverty implement our absurdity on traditional unceded Coast Salish territory in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, taking our inspiration in part from Occupy, in part from the Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army, and in part from our own special appreciation of the inane.

“Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice. Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings.” – Nelson Mandela
